Apple has rolled out a free update to users of iPhoto ‘11, the company’s digital photograph manipulation software. The new release delivers the usual tweaks and fixes, as well as new additions, such as the preference allowing photos to be emailed using an external email application, and new mail themes.

Dishing out the details about iPhoto 9.1.1, Apple reveals on the Support section of its web site that “This update adds new email options to iPhoto '11.”

If you already know that iPhoto is not going to work in Catalina, you might want to backup your iPhoto photos to an external hard drive before you proceed with the Mac update. This is actually the best way to keep your photos safe as well as easy to import into the Photos app when the update is installed. Apple has released a new update for iPhoto users, addressing several minor issues and improving the stability of the software. The update is free to download and install on any machine running Mac.

“It also improves overall stability and addresses a number of other minor issues,” the Mac maker adds.

The technical document containing the changelog for iPhoto 9.1.1 continues with the list of “specific fixes” which, according to Apple, include the following:

· Adds a preference allowing photos to be emailed using an external email application· Adds 'Classic' and 'Journal' themes to email.· Photos attached to an email can now be sized to Small, Medium or Large· Improves reliability when upgrading a library from an earlier version of iPhoto· iPhoto now correctly preserves the sort order of Events after upgrading a library· Event titles displayed in headers can now be edited in Photos view· Addresses a problem that could cause duplicate photos to be added to a MobileMe album· Scrolling overlay now correctly displays ratings when photos are sorted by rating· Photos are now sorted correctly when a rating is changed and photos are sorted by rating· Fixes a problem that could cause text formatting controls to become inaccessible when editing a calendar
